Blurring License Plates?

Random thought here...

When we post pictures of rigs, we take the time to "blur" the license plate in some form or another. I assumed this was to protect the individual of whom the photo was taken since someone could easily look up the plate number online and find an address. However, I'm not sure this information is so readily accessible - I tried searching online for awhile and never found a license plate lookup page. Additionally, license plates are already displayed to the public so if they wanted to, anyone could grab a plate number.

So, why blur the license plate in pictures? Common courtesy? Protect us from the zombies?

Just curious...

I think I know which picture sparked this question... :D

I've read too many threads on pirate where they got tons of personal info (address, age, parents' names, address, etc) off a simple license plate pull. Could anyone walk by my house and take down my license plate # and do that anyway? Yes, but it's less accessible to the entire world.

They changed the laws after 9/11 to make it so they're not available to the public. That being said, everybody seems to know someone that can get the info anyways... Myself included.
