I don't get it.
You hope that they don't own a 4x4 so it doesn't look bad on the 4x4 crowd so I figured I didn't want anyone to think white people could be affiliated with that since 4x4 owning people shouldn't be affiliated.

yep <sarcasm/troll font>, and wow those are a couple of winners. I can understand if they were setting up traps to protect their pot farm or something but just to stick it on the trail to nab innocent people.. non cool.

I'd love to know more about this fort. Why is there a fort like this near a popular hiking trail? I think these kids played warcraft a little too much as a kid.

I can't imagine had my wife been the one to trip the trap.. She would have most likely also been carrying my baby boy.. What a couple of sick creeps. I hope they rot for a long time

I think part of the story is missing, so the kids confessed after they were busted via Facebook... That was before the cop found the traps, so the cop knew about the traps? Correct?

From the earlier reports it sounded less like a 'fort' and more like a survival shelter. My guess is that these two kids are wannabe survivalists practicing in the hills above their moms house (home in time for dinner). I've stumbled across a few survival shelters. Bryson and I were hiking up Middle Canyon when we found a remote primitive shelter of recent vintage. Given it was near a water source (old spring) my gut instinct was a marijuana site but we didn't spy any and it didn't seem to have the usual trash and such around.
