Brake squeak

Dana 60 front with napa pads. I put lube on the back of the pads when I installed them and only have maybe 1000 miles on them. They squeak bad until I put some pressure on the brakes and it bugs me enough that I have been driving around with my foot on the brake. What else is there I can do?

Some ceramic pads squeak as a norm. You said you used LUBE on the pads you may want to try brake quite instead. Next you might want to check how true are your rotors are. Are the calipers hanging up?

Just some ideas.

Did the pads have the little sheet metal anti-squeal things on the back of them? Those are important. If they are supposed to have the sheet metal thing on the back and they don't, they will make bad noises.

The Napa lifetime pads I put on my wife's Nissan make horrible metal on metal noises all the time, but there is nothing wrong with them. Semi-metallic and ceramic pads just make lots of noise. Organic compound pads aren't as bad, but usually make a lot more brake dust.

I'd also do what rollover suggested--make sure your calipers are moving smoothly and glue the pads to them with disc brake quiet.

Sometimes using silicone brake grease on the backs of the pads attracts dirt and can actually make them squeal more.

ah gotta, I didn't realize that disk brake quiet glued the pads. i will give it a try. Its more of a constant squeak/squeal more than a grinding so I will give this a try, thanks

I have some of the disc brake quiet if you want to use it. I think I have had the same can for 15+ years and still have lots left. I dont know what a can goes for anymore.

I just did the brakes on my girlfriends Rover. It squeaks though be cause she bent her axle and it causes the pad to wobble too much.
