Brilliant or Deadly?

So, I noticed the ingenious way that this redneck fabbed up his drag link, and wondered...why didn't I think of this? I was having trouble with my drag link hitting my spring under extreme articulation, but this never even crossed my mind. Is it just me or is this one of the worst ideas ever? This knuckle head is driving on the same streets as us, and he is going to hit a Honda driver right in the face with his bumper when his Ghetto fab fails and he loses steering. This made an unnamed magazine as a featured vehicle :ugh:

I can't make out what he's done in the picture. It doesn't look right though.

Maybe this diagram will help you to see what has happened in the picture.

Okay, so to make this thread more "technical", what kind of force is being exerted on the square tubing at the opposite ends under normal operating conditions? I would guess that the welds on the little 1" drag link ends is not nearly enough to hold up for more than a month on the road, and about the first obstacle on any trail. That lever, I mean square tubing, would multiply the force past the strength of the joint. I just cannot imagine what this guy was thinking. Maybe this is why we have to get our vehicles state inspected every year. It's just too bad there is not a weekly requirement for junk like this.

Sadly I have actually seen a LOT of that in the "show trucks" they do the DUMBEST things. It seems that Paint and TALL is much more important in those things than HOW they actually did it. So the weld it up crap goes on a lot. There is actually a website that the guy just gets picts and posts how stupid people are. Sorry, I do not recall the addy though.
