So after 7 hard years my Costco special winch died last night. So I'm now in the market for another winch. So what are your guys opinions on the budget winch field? In the 8-10k range capacity. I'm pretty limited on funds and I'm not dependent on the winch primarily. Just need something that work well when I do use it. Thoughts and opinions? Go!

also I'm trying to stay in the 300-500 dollar range.

The Badland winch from Harbor Freight is supposed to be not complete junk. I've got no personal experience though. IMO, if I get to somewhere I need a winch, I'm really going to need a winch and I'll spend the extra couple hundred for a Name to make sure it's got my back when I need it.

the smitybilt xrc is the cheapest winch I'd run. I too have heard that the HF Badlands winch is every bit as good too.

I have bought several off KSL for less than $300. Its rare to find but I bought a fully functional warn 8274 at the DI for $40. Might be worth looking?

Multiple mags have done review's on the HF winches and they have been holding up to the tests.

If my budget didn't fit a warn (New or used) i would go HF or smitty.

Keep an eye on specals and the nice ones drop pretty low...

I've had great success with Mile Marker winches and they're priced in your range. I paid $450.00 for my 12K winch and it's worked perfect everytime I've had to pull someone else out.

Seems that's really what your winch is for (everyone else)!

you want to talk about slow... I have a re12000 ramsey... it only pulls in at 8 feet per min... but it will pull my jeep off the ground and tear the frame apart before it dies...

I was thinking of selling it due to no one makes a bumper to mount it to...
