A member from another forum refered me to your build. I'm currently tubbing for 35's and have been going over your build the last couple of days. I would like to keep my flares like you have. Looks cleaner that way. On your front flares I see that you trimmed the lower back about an inch or so. On the front fender itself did you trim the arch of the fender an inch? If so, when putting back the front flares wouldn't the tire hit at full stuff?

On the rear fender did you trim that as well? I know you cut the front of the rear fender about an 1" as well.

Awesome build! Thanks for posting this information, it has been great to use as a reference point!

Welcome ponethousand.

Yes, I trimmed the bottom 4" of my front flares. I did have to trim the inner metal fender as well to clear the tire.

Here are a few tips when you tub yours:

1) don't tub it until you have the exact wheels, tires, spacers, and UCAs you'll be running. Don't just trust my measurements to work for you, we may be running different UCAs, wheels, etc. Different wheels/tires/offsets require cutting/pounding in different parts of the fender.

2) install the upper control arm, remove the strut, then the wheel spacers (if you're going to use them), then a wheel with the 35s. Then jack your a-arm up until it's bottomed out on the bump stop. Keep cutting/pounding until your wheel can completely clear the firewall with zero rubbing.

3) remove as much of that rubber undercoating stuff before welding your new panel in

4) Once the inner fenders/floor is tubbed, put the outer fender back on, and trim anything that needs to be trimmed to still clear at full bump.

Good luck.

Thanks Steve and Adam. Both of you guy have so much knowledge on DC Tacomas. Adam has been my go to guy for information. He pointed me in your direction for tubbing, fenders, and flares. I got to say that your two trucks have been the best DC that I've seen.

Steve, I took your advise, got the tire all mounted up, removed the coilover, and put back on the fender. I do see that I'm going to have to trim the front of the fenders and also the rear of the fenders. Hoping that it will look as clean as yours!

I'm no master fabricator like Adam, I just took my time and went for it. It takes more guts than skill. Got a build thread anywhere so we can follow along?

Alright steve, I am making the jump to 35's on my taco. I am leaning towards the 285/75r18 mtr kevlars. So I'll have some 255 km2s for sale here soon. How are you liking the 5.29s ?

What A/Ts are you thinking about? My km2s suck in the snow. They are great in all other aspects. I would do dura tracks if they came in the size I wanted. While its not my main concern, what MPG are you getting
