More progress on the chassis... I welded the hitch in place and included a brace that is butts up to, hoping to spread the load a bit more. I also added a couple of supports from the hitch back to the frame.

@Anchor_Mtn told me that JK stock wheels would not work with this 3500 pound trailer axle a while ago, but I really had it in my mind to run the stock wheels. After realizing (he was right!) they won't fit over the hub, I decided to order some cheap steel wheels, went with Cragar Soft 8's. I could have added wheel spacers and made the JK wheels work, but I really don't like running spacers on anything. At least with the steel wheels, if I ever bend one, I should be able to hammer it back straight again.

Made some progress on the OUT the other day.... its getting hot and not easy to work on in the heat of the day. :( I put all the spring pieces together, spring pads, shackles, u-bolts, and fit everything up. I still need to weld the spring perches, but it was nice to see it looking like a trailer! I mounted up a set of 35x12.5x17 BFGoodrich KO2's (which match my JKU) and bolted them on.

Also pictured is a rotomold 20 gallon water tank that I picked up from @Anchor_Mtn . It will be mounted underneath the tub, to keep the weight down low.

(Yes, the tub is backwards)

Well, it's starting to look like a trailer! Did some finish welding on the frame, welded the spring perches to the axle, then painted the spring plates, perches, shackles and u-bolts and bolted it all up. If you'll notice, it's spring under, unlike the previous pics. They were just for mock up and is was easier to drop the axle down onto the springs when it was up side down. ;) I'll run it SUA, want it low and stable!

I'm pretty happy with the shackle angle, I think it'll give the springs some room to flatten out under load and ride decently.

Lots of work to do, I need to get a hitch for it and start working on crossmembers, fenders, mounting the water tank, mounting and wiring up lights, decide what I want for jacks, etc, etc.

I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do for the fenders, possibly a combination of 2" square tube, 2" plate and angle iron for the frame of the fenders, covered with a sheet of steel. I want them to be beefy but look good, also want the top flat part to be long and wide enough to use as a table... hopefully I can setup a cooking stove on the fender for preparing meals. We will see how it turns out.

My overbuild it tendancies are twitching... Have you thought about a cross member under the bed? or is the metal thick enough you won't ever need it?

Oh, just you wait.... there are 2 more X-members that are going in, this little trailer will be so overbuilt it'll blow you away! One X-member will go in to provide a mounting point for the water tank and the other will fill in the remaining gap.

Anything worth doing is worth OVER-doing.:usa:

Run one x-member side to side for the rear support of the water tank. Then run another from the middle of that x-member to the rear (like a "T"). It will support the floor(not that the 12ga tub needs it) and give you more surface area to weld on a rear receiver hitch.
