Allright, maybe this isn't technical talk but I didn't know where to put it.

I need recommendations on "bus or trucker" fans to cool us off when we wheel St. George next month. Any cool ways to mount them to the cage?

Thanks!

Get a water mist setup. That + any air motion at all = comfy people in hot weather.

Fans just blow hot air at you I've learned. I got a mister from marine products you pump it up after you fill the tank with water and after pressure is built you open the valve and enjoy the mist. Last for awhile too.

Besides the hand-held pump misters, if you want something more elaborate you can do something like this: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...=10053&langId=-1&keyword=mister&storeId=10051

Mount the tubing and misting heads to your cage. Clay Egan did that back in the day, and it worked well for him.

I also noticed the handheld ones are cheaper at Home Depot than at Marine Products, which isn't much of a surprise. ;)
i didn't know home depot carried them, but i got mine off their clearance rack a yr ago so i got it cheaper then home depot sells them :p

I didn't know they sold them either, until I just searched for the patio mister version....but I'll bet a little bit of online shopping will find them for less than Home Depot's price anyway.

Coolest (pun intended) misting system I have seen used a refillable water fire extinguisher- the kind that uses compressed air to charge. The guy had an adjustable valve going to the misters and could use his ARB compressor if it needed to be re-charged.

Compact, stout, and kept on working even when parked at an obstacle for a while.

Very cool idea. You could use a relatively cheap 12v shurflo pump (ebay) to supply pressurized water to the whole vehicle.

The home depot misting kits in Utah are from Airazona Mist, which is a Orbit Irrigation company. Cool made mist is another company but can be ordered on line. I have both the mist bottles with pumps and a full mister kit. They both work good but the misting kits take more water so if your limited on storage I would use the bottle pump style. If there is a large enough interest in these misting kits and pumps I can help out the Rme members saves few bucks. I hope I didn't cross the vendor line by this.

Just be sure to learn all about Legionella/Legionaires disease before you put a misting system on your rig. Most of us have immune systems that can handle it, but the little ones that sometimes come along on our adventures may have a tougher time with it. There have been cases where the misting systems in grocery stores have been blamed for outbreaks of Legionaires.
