So it's time to put some tunes in the truck. I mostly just want an input to the speakers - I don't need CD or a radio tuner or any bells and whistles, a simple mini-stereo jack (or even bluetooth!) and a volume knob would suit me just fine.

I thought such a beasty was already on the market, but my google-fu has failed me. Does what I want exist? If not, how can I make this happen?

You can get some decent brand cheap cd players like kenwood, or jvc for under 70 bucks with a ipod jack

I know Alpine makes some, I think they call them media players. They have BT integration with phones so you can play your Pandora, local library, etc through them and I believe some of them have usb so you can even play right off a usb stick.

If you'd help me move, you'd be all kinds of hooked up.

I know. Hurry and move back cuz I need some speakers wired in too.

To be clear, I have a cheapo stereo deck I can throw in. I'm hoping for something smaller that I can hide behind the dash or somewhere. I'll check out those alpine media players. I'm also thinking maybe a Raspberry Pi with a 3.5 input and RCA out to an amp? How well would that work do you think?

I thought 12v solutions had something like a "rock box" or something like that. It was an amp with RCA inputs. It was nice and compact. I can't remember the name of it right now.

I did have something really simple when 12Volt Solutions was open. I can still get you all the components if you would like. It consisted of a mini 2 channel amp, volume control knob and either a 3.5mm jack to RCA or a ipod to RCA it charges and plays.

or another option is this

I like that Kicker, that's a nice clean solution. I don't often regret not being an Apple guy, but that'd be perfect.

I like that inline volume control, too, I bet that's better than a random POT and my crappy soldering skills :D. Keep the ideas coming, these are great!

CubanB aka joe made a cool set up for his YJ with an amp an ammo box and and some other stuff. I want one like it.
