thats what i thought when i heard that that was a pretty nice car just to ruin. plus you only get scrape value plus 4500 dollars. so maybe 5000 dollar trade in looks like the grand was worth more than that

They only have to disable the engines, the scrap yards can part the rest of the vehicles out for recycle... only the gas hog motors are evil to the greenies.

I agree the program is absurd. The fact that cars older than 25 years don't qualify defeats a good portion of the supposed purpose of the program.
I know that dodge is offering a double CARS incentive, where they will knock another 4500 off the price of the vehicle, and that might make it worth trading in something like that WJ, but the whole program is a joke. Another classic example of big green accomplishing nothing but feeling good about it somehow.

this is a complete stupid idea from the Government. Where did these billions of dollars come from???

Having said that......Im actually considering doing it. Hypocritical I know but...

We got my wifes Grandmas car when she died. Its a 89 Pontiac Grand Prix. Pretty decent shape over all. 90k miles on it. But its a 2 door and with the baby coming I dont think my wife will like it to much.

I couldnt sell the car for 2 grand so if I get 4500 for it thats pretty good right? The car has a ton of miles left in it but in this case I think it will work out the best for me.

Just considering it now but Im leaning towards it. Trying to find out all the info I can first

I'm going to pull a Marcus, but it applies... especially this one line.

It's never really what you own but what you threw away And how much did you pay?...

It's a matter of prescience
No, not the science fiction kind
It's all about ignorance
And greed and miracles for the blind
The media parade and disjointed politics
Founded on petrol chemical plunder
And we're its hostages
If you stand to reason
You're in the game
The rules may be elusive
But our pieces are the same
And you know if one goes down
We all go down as well
The balance is precarious as anyone can tell
This world's going to hell
Don't allow
This mythological full monster to exact its price
Kyoto now
We can't do nothing and think someone else will make it right
You might not think it matters now
But what if you were wrong?
You might not think there's any wisdom
In a ****ed up punk rock song
But the way it is cannot persist for long
A brutal sun is rising on a sick horizon
It's in the way we live our lives
Exactly like the double edge of a cold familiar knife
And supremacy weights heavy on the day
It's never really what you own but what you threw away
And how much did you pay?

Don't allow
This mythological full monster to exact its price
Kyoto now
We can't do nothing and think someone else will make it right
In your dreams
You saw a steady state of mind before eternity
Silent scream
But now the wisdom that sustains us is in full retreat
Watch out!
Don't allow
This mythological full monster isn't worth the risk
Kyoto now
We can't have vision for the future if it can't be fixed
Alien
We need a fresh new religion to run our lives
Hand in hand
The arid torpor of inaction will be our demise
Kyoto now

So I'm curious here...
As I understand it, the finance contract for vehicles purchased under the cash for clunkers programs would be for the full price of the vehicle, less any incentives the dealer throws in. After the trade in's engine is disabled, and the remains properly processed and delivered to an approved scrap yard, the government issues a check tot he dealer and the amount of the check is deducted from the remaining contract.

What happens if the check never shows up? The consumer is left holding the ball for that?

Can anyone confirm that this is how the program functions?
How would that work for someone paying cash for a vehicle?

I wouldn't sign the contract for the full price... there is no way I'd trust the government like that... :spork:

MOST dealers wont make you sign for the full amount.

But no worries guys!

Congress is pushing Obama to find an additional 2 billion dollars for the program to keep going!

I think he can find it....he found 1 billion floating in space, whats 2 more???
