Cell phone help.

So I'm renewing my contract with Verizon for one year, and need to pick a phone.

I already had them send me a LG VX8350, but I already hate it since I can't easily put the key lock on so it dosen't push the buttons while in my pocket. I have to go all the way through the menu to setting to security to get the key's locked. So in less someone know's a secret code to get it to work like my Razer (clr + * to lock the key's) it's heading back.

SO I'm trying to deside between these two phones I believe with these two you can easily lock the buttons with hitting only a couple key's. Hopfully someone can let me know forsure.

I don't need all the high tech junk. I like the camera option though.

Personally (I didn't even look at the phones though ) I'd go with the LG. I've heard great things about LG phones, on the same note I've had several Motorola's and I've never been overly impressed with them. They tend to lack the ability to get a good reception regardless of where you are. The one I have had the best luck with is the Moto SLVR, but I still only used that phone for a couple months before getting tired of it.

I'm kind of leaning towards the LG for the same reason, I've heard tons of good things about LG phones.

Will see I'll probably stop at the Verizon store today, and take a look at the LG to make sure it has the key lock.

best advice i can give you is to ditch verizon, CDMA sucks and the US is the only country to still use it on a large scale, pretty much all others have gone to GSM (sim card based) because of the open standard. I can take my t-mobile phone and unlock it and use it on any GSM network that I have an active sim for. Verizon cannot do the same. You have to change the software on the phone for each network and it is an absolute pain if you're not someone who does it for a living.

actually very serious. CDMA networks are only popular in the NA reigon. Take your phone somewhere like europe and you're hosed. GSM is the way to go, have your phone unlocked and use it on whatever network you want.

So Kris, do you want a phone that works in Europe or one that works here?

I'd stick with LG. Not a Motorola fan.

my gsm phone works great here; it is unlocked and sim based. should I end up in another international sales position you bet I will be happy that I have an unlocked gsm based phone.

AT&T service atm and looking to purchase my next smartphone soon unlocked for free by AT&T HTC STR TRK

The other nice thing about GSM SIM based phones is you are not stuck with only using the phones that the service provider has for sale.

If you like to make phone calls in the boonies than stick with Verizon. The "archaic" technology has better coverage in the back country. I was texting on Kane Creek last year through the whole trail...nobody that had t-mobile or the like had coverage.

I don't plan on working in europe or even visiting for long enough to need a worldwide compatible phone. I do, however, work in the boonies and I need to keep in touch so I choose Verizon.

i have the vx8300 its a good phone i went through 8 samsung phones in less than a year i'm kinda hard on them... it takes good pix and flix........... my sister has the 8700 it's a good phone also.....no problems lg is the only way to go ....

Gi'schick and I both have the lg vx8600 which are sweet phones but the 8700 replaced them... I have had lg phones 4 about 5 yrs now and wouldnt get any other brand

I have a Verizon Samsung SCH-U740 and found it to be the best phone I've ever had. Try getting a decent signal in any hospital around here with a T-Mobile. I could always get/make phone calls with mine. Plus I've dropped this phone several times and it still works. I sent tons of pics/flixs last week while in Hawaii. Those new Voyagers are lookin pretty sweet, might have to drop my phone some more.

I got sick of Samsung phones and needed something with a calendar for work. Almost bought a Blackberry, then a Tilt, but in the end decided to go with a new Iphone. Oh yeah, I'm with AT&T. Lovin it so far.

I wonder how many of us just want a reliable phone. No text, no MP3, no camera, no other clutter-junk.... Just a phone that gets good signal, has good battery life you don't need to carry the manual with you to use for the first few weeks. I don't even care if it's big. It can even be a black/white screen (please).


I just don't care what bells/whistles it has. Just do your job. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm going to send back my current phone, and pick up the LG5400. I don't plan on ever leaving the country so I'm not to worried about that.

its about time, but there will still be restrictions and there are more sim (gsm) based phone options out there then cdma.. GSM phones are more world wide which is why the Euro guys get the nice phones first. Good luck on how freely you think VZW will be on what phones will be allowed on their network.

I am with you here I like the phone that i have as it will sync up with my outlook and keep track of all my contacts/tasks/appointments other than that I rarely use the camera, text, or send emails with my phone. It is nice now to not have to carry a pda/phone/planner now I just carry my phone small enough to fit in the pocket of my shirt or pants, and a padfolio for taking notes.
