Cheap tricks in off-roading you've learned along the way...

Lots of great tips in this thread. I carry one of those air transfer hoses in my daily driver along with a plug & patch kit. I got the transfer hose from my dad about 20 years ago and it came with an emergency air compressor. The air compressor is a fancy check valve that screws into one of the spark plug holes. Just unplug the injector for that cylinder to keep out the gas fumes.

in order to run a Taurus fan (which is cost effect BIG AIR electric fan from the JY) you can automatically run it on two speed settings based off of heat feedback by using a Volvo dual speed relay kit from the junk yard....

Good info. I think I'm going to go snag one of those for the "Jeep"

This is a subject that I know about, but never really had one myself and only seen it deployed a few times while out on the trail...

Dubbed the burrito box, burrito basket or engine compartment oven.

simply devise a device to hold food and slowly cook/warm you entrée while cruising the trail...

mooched pics, but you get the idea....YUM:

Or you can use the whole fan assembly from the Volvo, with the relays attached to it. ;)

I keep a few of these in my buggy to jump a blown relay, switch, or fuse. usually twist them around the harness by the fuse block or under the dash around some wires so i dont have to dig in the tool box for them.

There are commercially available cook boxes (Hot Dogger?), I even have a cookbook that covers only engine cooked meals called 'Manifold Destiny'. Yum yum

Handy to have for sure. Just make sure you fix the problem (short?) that blew the fuse or relay before you jump it.

I like how concerned he is about safety, but how practical is that? Do straps have a tendency to break for reasons other than poor care and neglect?

I've got one nice strap (because I don't like to get it dirty) and then a couple I wouldn't trust to be safe.

However, I have seen new straps break from force.
