True, but most people ask 400+ for those ;)

True, but you also get what you pay for, and $400 for a direct bolt in axle he'll never have to worry about, with way more aftermarket support that a 35 or 8.25" has, seems worth the coin :)

What is an early xj? What does the 44look like

They were an option from factory from '87-'92

and a 44 cover looks like the Dana 60 but smaller. And I wanna say 2.75" axle tubes but don't quote me on that.

True, but I would rather take that 400 then add an extra 100 and do a 44/9" swap. I've bought that setup many times for 200-250 then put them in for 500 total. But that's just me.

Now don't get me wrong a 44/30 combo is still great for factory axles but I can't justify spending 400 on a factory 44. Just my opinion tho.

I hear ya, I think Hoosier is just wanting to stay factory width though and not go full width, and also have the same bolt pattern that he has now.

That's the good part about the 44/9 swap. Their not full width just a hair wider than stock. ;) a set of flares and still legal. But without spending money on adapters true new wheels would have to be bought. That is the one bonus to an xj 44

Also, TJ 44's are more easily found, and if I remember right they had an option of disc brakes with parking brake from the factory, and would also be 5 x 4.5" lug pattern, but would need to cut off the coil mount stuff in trade for leaf spring perches obviously.

I can't remember if YJ's were ever offered with them.

They are significantly wider. Unless you find EB axles, and then you have to swap rear shafts to get 31 spline.

Agreed, my XJ had 44/9" out of a 1/2 ton. Granted my wheels had a little over an inch wider back spacing than stock.

Actually I don't consider 2.5" on each side significant compared to say a 14b stock XJ is 60" and half ton width is 65" so as long as you don't get a deep offset wheel you can still stay street legal easily, and be much stronger than stock.

And yes my I noticed your playing grammar police.......cool

3/4 tons came with a 9"? I always thought they came with a 60 but that would be significantly wider than a 1/2 ton.
