Still looking ahead to when I sell the Montero Sport and need a new rig.

First choice is wil and FZJ80 Landcruiser, but they aren't cheap.

From a previous thread it as established that to run 33s on a XJ or GC, need 5.5" lift.

About what lift to run 32s and is the difference between 32s and 33s worth it?

(makes me appreciate the MS can run 32s stock and 33s with 2" lift, darn lack of lockers)

You would need about 3.5" on a ZJ to clear 32's if you're ok trimming a little.

You can clear 33's w/ 3.5-4.5 depending on trimming. 35's can be cleared w/ 4.5-6" depending on lift and trimming.

This is ZJ stuff though. I'm pretty sure XJ stuff is almost identical.

:eek: I don't know about the ZJ, but I ran 35" tires on 5.5" lift on my XJ. 4" would clear 33" pretty easily, IMHO. I'd probably still run a quality 'short-arm' lift rather than a 'long arm'. You will need to trim, but it's worth it to stay lowish.

you can run 33 on a stock its just how much trimming you want to do... but on a xj i have seen people run 33 on a 3inch or 4.5 or 8 inch lift ... its all about trimming if you were going to run'n 33 on a xj with no trimming... ya 5.5 would be great but if you want to trim alittle 4.5 would be great

Im running 33/1250's on my XJ with ~3" of lift. I trimmed the front and raised the flares, the back trimmed itself. I would be way more concerned with the quality of the lift than the lift height.
