City of Rocks, Idaho

Has anyone been up to the City of Rocks? I hear people talking about it being just a Rock Climbing Meca but I am curious about just camping and doing so exploring up there. Is there any decent 4x4 trails in that area?

That looks like a really cool place... where about in Idaho is it?

Only abou 30 miles NW of Snowville, Utah. I've been there, camping. It's a national preserve, not quite national park status, but protected just the same. We went there to play paintball. Very cool area.

I grew up close to there, small town called Malta, about 8 miles to the east. I would say it is a meca for climbing. There is stuff for everyone lots of hikeing and bikeing trails. There are many campsites, and they have recently spent alot of $$$ on improvements. I took my boys (6-4-2) a few weeks ago and they had a blast. There is also alot of things for experienced and non-experienced alike. If you like to climb it is a must. On the down side there are not any real 4x4 trails. If you like to shoot guns there are some cool places near by that you can go that are abundant with targets.

We just bought a small "get away" house in Rockland, ID. Its looks too be in the general area. I havent had much time to check out the area but this sounds like a good place to start.

I personally liked it better 20 years ago before every climb was bolted and you could camp anywhere you wanted. It got really crowded for a while there so I quit going. I went up about five years ago late in the fall and it wasn't to crowded but if you go in the summer on a weekend, go early or you won't get a campground...unless it's changed a lot since I went.
