Clocking a 241

I put the NP 241 transfer case under the commando tonight and don't like how low it hangs down. The commando doesn't have a deep tunnel so I can't tuck it up much farther without having to modify the floor. I am losing 5-6 inches of ground clearance which isn't good. Is there a good way to clock this thing up ? or should I modify the floor or find a different case ?

D&D Machine makes one... and there are cheapies on Ebay... Someone out there makes one with a new shaft so you don't lose any spline engagement, but I can't remember who-- there was a thread on Pirate recently.

As far as modding the floor, I'm not sure there's any better option if you want the clearance.

I am going to be using a 241D case with the 241C input gear so that I get rid of the slip yoke. I have discovered that the Dodge 241 has a different clocking pattern than the 241C does. However I found last night that the 241D will sit flat using the stock Chevy adapter by removing one of the mounting bolts. I could rework the adapter to get back the missing mount bolt but I'm thinking that it might be fine with five bolts holding it on. Some guys on pirate say they leave one bolt out and have no problems. What do you guys think ?

When I got my Blazer, it was missing a bolt. Nothing bad happened. I think you should be ok... but I'd be keeping a closer eye on it than I might otherwise. Go for it.

That's good tech info too, that it will sit flat like that. :D
