what i have is an 81 datsun, what i want to do is conver the front to a coil-over system from a trosion bar set up. any clues to how to start this? is there any kits out there for this? and/or lift kit w/convertion included for this year and make of truck?

what i want to run on the truck is 36" or 38" tires. should i go with a 4" lift or 6" lift?

I haven't seen much aftermarket for a Datsun out there, let alone coil-over systems. Sounds like you're gonna be deep into some custom fab.

Maybe look into coil-overs that are pre-valved and setup for similar weight vehicles to help with that aspect. It sounds like you are wanting to keep the IFS... if so, why? I'd look into SAS options, especially for running larger tires and doing any kind of rockcrawling. Either way, you are going to be fabricating some custom coil-over mounts among other things with that kind of lift on smaller IFS systems.

I would probably look into SAS it. You could adapt a toyota kit and axle or even a nissan kit pretty easily I imagine. What are your plans for the truck? Probably a 6 in kit and some hacking

what i want is a good trail rig. one that i can use to 4x4 and go crawling with as well. i will use it to go back and forth to work as well (work is less than a mile from home, and i live in a small farm town). body wise i dont care if it gets ruffed up as long as it goes where i want to go :D

BTW Datsun became Nissan in the mid 80's.

What side is the t case output on? If it is the pass..... then I would just throw a toy solid axle under there and be done with it.

if your meaning the output for the front, the T-case is just about in the centet with the shaft angling off th the drivers side of the truck. the T-case is mounted by its self so i could change it out if I need to. if i go with the solid axle in the front, should i go with leaf or coil springs? what would give me better flex?

In general coils will flex better than leaves but a well engineered leaf system will out perform a not so well engineered coil system. Coils also are more expensive because you need locating arms, track bars, etc. If you got the cash and a have the knowlege do coils. If you are on a budjet leaf springs rule :)

I love Datsuns and miss my old 720. Anyway you are in for alot of work. For crawling you're going to have to put in a solid axle. The tcase output is centered, so a new divorced tcase is in order. Although i have heard of 3 guys who added a second tcase after the stock one. If it was mine i'd add a yota dual case with an OTT divorced adapter. Or maybe a Dana 20 with a low gear set.
Next you need axles. They came with 4.10 but i think there's only 1 locker option for your rear, which is lockright. Find a matching set of Dana 44s from a waggy, or Dana 60s if you need them. The rear is extremely flexy! Hang the front with some yota or waggy leafs.
I'm guessing your datsun is worth up to 2000$ max if its in perfect shape. You'll be into this double that at least depending on how much you do yourself.
If i didn't already have too many projects, i'd love to have what you are contemplating.
Reality is though unless you love the Datsun name or look or something, you'd be better off to get something more common with straight axles already on it perhaps.
