Concealed Carry and the Wife

Tacoma and Rot box said it better than I ever could. I carry everyday at work. One .40 cal. Glock with in a full load configuration. One M-4 in a half load configuration. 46 rounds for the glock (all hollow points) and 128 for the M-4 (all full metal jackets). This is what I carry all them time. We have more weapons than we will hopefully ever need. While in training we are told to shoot to stop the action. Not to shoot to kill. It is an unforutunate side effect that most shots fired (on target) will end a life. However, the action has been stoped. It is better to be tried by twelve than to be carried by six. Tacoma and Rot Box are right on!

Nah, he has an ammo caddy

that's gotta be inconvenient pulling a RadioFlyer around everywhere you go. :D

Conspicuous too- "That dude's pulling a wagon, don't mess with him!"

My wife and I plan to take the course real soon. She will never carry, I already know, but the course is good education. I am out of town ALOT, and I will feel better knowing that she knows a little bit of how to handle a situation if it ever arises. She's perfectly willing to gether permit even though she doesn't like firearms.

If she isn't going to carry you'd be 100x better off taking shooting courses rather a CCW class. You don't really learn anything except a few laws and depending on the the person that teaches it, you don't get shooting time either.

From what you are describing isn't taught and barely even covered in the class. When I took my CCW class they also offered some level one, level two, etc handgun courses where you actually learned how to use them. Might be better off with somethig like that.

My wife and I took a CFP class from Larry at FBMG (I think he no longer works there, but he may still be doing classes). The class was very well presented and helped Kami be more open to concealed carry. She even followed through and when I sent in my permit application she sent hers in, too.

They came in the mail last week and she reiterated the fact that she would never carry, but the class definitely helped her open her mind to concealed carry and firearms in general. I guess the quality of class really depends on the instructor

It does seem to.

It works across the country, too... :D Trust me.

Benjy, you are right on about the instructor/quality issue. My class was taught by Terry Thompson and Doug Coleman in Ogden, and, as they are UHP employees :D, was very in-depth on the reality of shooting human beings-- we watched video and saw some pictures.... They were also pretty good on the legalities involved, and what happens after a shooting, as well as quoting some decent FBI stats on the lower personal crimes (stickups, rapes, etc) in states that allow concealed carry.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see more women carrying... men are kind of programmed to respond to violence with less of the emotional side effects that affect women... Men generally aren't raped and beaten, which makes a big difference.

Well sure she is open to carrying (I wish my wife was) but that doesn't help the fact if she had to use a firearm to defend herself. I took my class at the same place, and learned a lot about laws, but not much on how to handle a gun.

For example. Each person had a scenario they had to go through and determine if lethal force was necessary. One lady was up - hers was she came home and there was someone inside the home, he was dressed a man from the gas company and attempted to identify himself and she "shot" him before he even got a sentence out.

I really think they should have firearm training classes before someone even thinks about getting a CCW. Sitting in a class for a few hours without firing one shot, shouldn't give someone the ability to carry a loaded firearm.

I don't know, maybe it's assumed you should know how to use a firearm before you take a class.:-\

I am probably going to buy the wife a gun of her own choice and drag her to the range as much as I possibly can. Maybe that will help. She shoots her Dad's Kimber from time to time, but doesn't really like my Tokarev.

I agree with what's been said above. They probably should bring back the shooting part of the concealed class. There is not much point in toting a gun along if you are unable to operate it without any proficiency.

The instructor we took the class from used a .45 to show some handling techniques, but the gun didn't work very well anymore....because he had put a hundred thousand rounds through it. I bet he could hit pretty well with that.

Yeah, but can you blame him? With you looking all shifty and what not.....

Then we saw that same cop later at the motel-_-

If I was a cop I'd arrest Princess Destro ALL the time, and make him shine the jail toilet. He needs that kind of thing.

You shut up, no jail can hold me!!! I have all the structure I need you terrorist:rofl:
