The smile on the BYU player gives me the impression they were actively trying to get that gal pissed enough to retaliate... Div. 1 sports are incredibly competitive and dirty play is often the rule and not the exception....

Jamesgeologist has a good point. The other thing that we need to keep in mind is all the media showed was the UNM girls blows to the BYU team. We don't get the whole story and we never will. Was she being taunted by BYU players? Maybe, the media is only going to show the worst of the worst and since it was based in Utah I can only assume that the clips were going to be shown on a Utah slant. She plays defense and she was playing an aggressive game. Not all that bad. When you get to that level the line between good, hard play and dirty becomes blurred. Don't believe me? Watch a pro Football game closely sometime. Every offensive lineman is holding the defenseive player. When they lock up there is a grip of defensive jersey in every offensive linemans hands. Some let go after they are beat, those that don't get called for holding, sometimes. She played hard and she played aggressive but, she also got caught.

BS, the lines do not get blurred between good hard play and dirty playing. I use to play soccer at that level of play and the only time the games got like this is when the players were getting frustrated. You can be the best player out there, but when you start pulling crap like that (no matter if you were taunted or not) you become nothing more than a thug and need to be removed. Getting in to the opponents head IS part of the game, beating their head in is not.

I don't know where you played soccer, but what happened here isn't uncommon at all. Soccer is probably one of the dirtiest professional games played.

I thought a lot of those BYU players were pretty weak. Like that girl that dropped and probably started crying for getting her hair pulled.
