Anyone have an opinion on this car? I'm thinking about buying an 04. I like the idea of the v8 rear wheel drive big car. I've heard they get 25mph hwy. I could fit 4 kids and the trunk is about as big as the back of my blazer.

better make sure you get that A-pillar spoltight too!!!

Actually, my grandma has an older one, probably 98 or 99. They are a pretty nice ride for long trips. A bit too big for my tastes in town though. Seems to have plenty of power too.

I have a '98 Grand Marquis, which is the same thing. Excellent freeway cruiser. 100,000 miles on it and never had any problems. I average 25mpg at highway speeds. Its a bit large for parking in some areas. Due to th rear drive, which I like, I would highly reccomend traction control. Oh yes, some people consider them "geeser" cars but thats OK with me because I am one. :D

My parents have one . . . I'm not sure what year it is, I think it is a 2001 or so. But it is the Intercepter model.

They love it, and it's never given them any problems.

Throttle response is slow, but once the engine gets the hint, it's got really nice power.

Rear wheel Drive + Snow = Car accident or not gettting out of your driveway.

I only know this beucase my mustang is a rear wheel drive and I am driving a 80 somthing ford tempo this winter so I dont have to deal with the BS that I did last winter.

I had a 98 police interceptor that still had all the whistles and bell, which made it an even funner car. But that aside I loved it, and never should of sold it and i got about 21 around town and mid 30's highway

i used to deliver parts to a mechanic shop that worked on a lot of cop cars and some of them have sweet rollcages. i think it is a cool car, and it must do okay in the snow cause the cops don't seem to mind

If you want a newer model car and don't mind the mileage, go for the unmarked UHP cars that make it to the public. They have the interceptor package, push bars, spotllight, etc. They usually never have the rear restraints for transporting people and they are very well maintained.
My uncle in the Albuquerque (try and spell that one without looking it up :D ) PD has bought two of them for around $4500 and still hasn't had an issue (going on three years now).

I always heard used police cars were good cause they are usually maintained pretty well...... but NOW I would NEVER recommend a used police car

The Crown Vic is the last rear wheel drive car used by any enforcement department (in fleet use). I can see where the problem would be in snow. I was driving yesterday in my Suburban w/ the 8.1L and If I didn't start gently I easily could have turned sideways. I think that poor weather performance is as much a problem with the vehicle as it is a state of mind with the driver. The UHP and Police are supposedly trained to drive better than joe shmoee. So I would find one (want ads, Auto trader, etc.) and test drive it next time it snows. Worst case scenario Ace, is you hate it and buy something else.

they are awesome

I have had an 03, 04, and an 05. They ride very nice and have lots of power for their size. Ive had to drive mine in the snow several times and if your not an idiot they are very manageable.

Although older (87) The one my brother had that came from Grandpa w/ 17l miles on it was sweet, make that Extra sweet. big 5.0 liter v8, big cushy seats, etc. Damn transmission went out though. A friend who is a UHP officer has taken me in his a few times, and getting on the freeway to pull someone over (ridealong) I felt that familiar rush one feels when four wheeling --- i.e. the 'clench up yer butt cheeks thrill' Go for it--trunk thing is right on, they are huge- no wonder the gangsters go for them, you could fit 4-5 bodies in there!

Thanks for everyone who replied. I was really impressed with the drive but I ended up buying an 03 half ton Suburban with the 5.3l engine. Its not a torque monster but the engine pulls hard all the way to 6000 rpm and it moves!!

Maybe the Crown Vic will come when I pay off my truck.
