Custom Coil Springs

After 15 years of offroading, we finally broke something serious on the mog - one of the front coils. After reading up on suspension theory over on Pirate, I'm convinced I want to play with the spring rates to improve the ride.

I have all the spring specs from Mercedes and nothing is quite what I want. The 1900 lb corner weight rules out most common truck springs. That leaves me ordering some Moog springs off the shelf that are kindof close or having some built to spec.

Has anyone here had custom made coil springs? If so, by whom, and was the cost and service reasonable?

I haven't had any done, but a friend of mine used Valley Spring (IIRC) and was happy. Not a Mog though. ;)

I had some made about ten years ago, by a company called Spring Works in North Salt Lake. We wanted to go that route instead of doing triple rate springs on some coilovers, back in the days of really slinky, low frequency suspensions. Iirc the cost and delivery were reasonable, we did have to handle getting them powdercoated though.

Out of curiosity, what do you know of the spring you seek? I'm curious what the numbers are like on a spring for an obscenely heavy rig like that.

Thanks for the lead.

The current stock springs are about 800 lb/in and only 10" high. I'm thinking of trying something much softer, like 500 lb/in, but a little taller (abt 13") so the height at rest is a little higher than stock to allow a little more bump travel. Hopefully figure a way to add hydraulic bump stops.
