cutting mtr's

So I'm thinking of cutting up my Kevlar mtr's. Its always bugged me that they have that 'solid' lug pattern down the inside center. I think it affects grip and does affect wear. The plan is to remove every other lug from that 'solid' strip. They are about worn out(maybe another year) so I figured now was a good time to try it.
Has anyone done this?
Best method to do it? I read about using the back of a sharpened sawzal blade but think it would be tough to work it between that tight tread pattern.
Thoughts?
Thanx
Tim

I've actually heard that the solid center rig aids with traction in wet and dry condtions and is only a hinderence when its packy mud to clog the tread... I would use a tire groover for 65 or 70 bucks.

I did read on Pirate that a guy cut out like the every 4th tread lug on the solid tread patterns to help break it up a bit, but didn't get any feedback on the final design.

The problem I see is that when you are in the rocks, your traction pretty much stops at the solid strip. My outside lugs wear much faster then the identical inside. I'll search for the pirate thread.

I think a hot tire groover with 1/8" blade would be effective. Cut the center lugs in 2 to promote tire squirm and flex. If you really want whole lugs to disappear then a chainsaw will do the job faster than anything. At least that is what I've been told. You get triple redneck points for showing up with chainsawed tires.
