So...compression getting into coolant?

Well, as I said, I'm no expert on such matters. This morning when I filled the radiator, I did so with the engine running.... because I thought that's how it's supposed to be done.
When I topped it off, the level would rise, a bubble would come out and it would drop down again. I just assumed it was air pockets escaping. I filled the overflow bottle half way and drove to work.
Seven hours later, I went out to the parking lot, opened the cap, looked in and then started the truck. The coolant slowly rose as it did this morning, however, instead of the bloop, it just kept coming. I put the cap back on and drove home and threw my shirt and tie in the garbage.

I shot a video of the coolant surge (couldn't post it here) and shared it with my bud who worked on the cooling system last. He says it's either air in the system or blockage based on what he sees.

Ran the heat (don't use in much in the peninsula), squeezed the upper hose to let bubbles out and then gunned the throttle. A big splash and the coolant level normalized and no more overflowing.

At this point, I'm feeling good that with new valve cover gaskets and water pump I'm ok. I will ask them to do a compression check. Here's what will get done:

Tune up
Water pump
Timing belt (might as well)
Lower control arms
Rear axle seals (needed to be done since 2011)
Rear brakes (see above)
Valve cover gaskets

D.A.V.e is back in service. Everything is fixed for the low low price of $5165.

Good thing I maxed out my bonus plan in December

Holy shizzz!! What was the cause of all the trouble?

The list of stuff has been needed since I owned it for the most part. When 5.5 quarts of oil went missing as well as all the coolant. I had to make a move. My check this week will be the largest I've gotten since 2007 so I figured that now was the time.

Add to that list ball joints and tie rod ends.

So... what was the problem?

Leaking valve cover gaskets, leaking water pump, spark plugs and wires in need of replacing, leaking rear axle seals, no rear brakes due to axle seals, not many parts holding the front suspension to the rest of the truck.
