Ok Last night I did something to the rear end of the jeep. I am going to go look at it now. My thoughts are if I have to buy new gears, why not get 4:10's. I understand that if I change the gears to 4:10's that I will need to take the Xfer case to a 4:1 gear ratio.
(side note I want to change the axles and I have several available to me I have a neighbor that someone dropped a 72 Chevy 3/4 ton off in his lot who told me I could have the xfer case and axles off it. My problems is that right now I use this jeep as my one vehicle. I don’t know much about this truck other than its a 3/4 Chevy made in 1972. I also have a Chevy 10 bolt off an 82 burb that I can get my hands on.)
Is there anything I can do with the xfer case out of the Chevy? Could I use My current suspension if I chose to change the axles? Where would I measure to find out?
If I don’t end up changing the axle(s) now, then I have a whole other list of questions. I really need to understand how this works actually. If I buy a locker does it come with the gears? (Likely not) If it does not, then I would think there are several manufacturers of gears, which do I really want? Is one maker better than the rest I guess is what I’m asking? Once I get the gears I want to have selectable lockers. I know there are lots of choices. I have even seen several in action. I don’t really want to fork over the cash for the ARB’s. Are there any that have a mechanical mechanism for engagement and disengagement? I know that I could get the electrical ones. Which might be the way that I would choose to go? Any thoughts and Input would be appreciated.
