I broke the short shaft on my D30 out of a 92 yj, What are my options? Can I put D44 axle in? What other model jeeps can I use? I have front D44 axle but it passenger side drop not driver side drop, will this still work? Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I 'think' the short side is the same between YJ, TJ, and XJ. I'm not 100% though. I'd probably chat with your friendly neighborhood Six States or axle mfg. to verify, though.

I've got several sets of shafts from D30's off Scouts. If they'll work, I'll give you what you need for cheap.

No, very different axles.

Your passenger drop axle won't work unless you want to change your t-case too. Good full-swap candidates include, but are not limited to, certain years Grand Wagoneer D44s, certain years of Jeep J10 trucks, 77-79 Ford F150/F250 D44s, and certain years of Ford F350 D60s. I can't help you with exact years.

I think your best bet is to swap axles; D30/35s are crap and sinking $ into them is a waste of time unless you're only mall crawling.
I swapped axles in my 95 YJ and never regretted it. I used to run a Ford 9 in the rear and a Ford high pinion D44 in front. Or find a J truck or waggy Dana 44 front (plentiful and cheap) and get a Isuzu D44 rear; changes your rig to six lug. you'll have to reweld spring perches but that's it. good time to do spring over if that's your thing.
One word of advice, i had to get a bigger master cylinder cause my brakes sucked.
