which is better for a cj? which is stronger? Which is the easiest swap or to upgrade. What's the differences in widths, spring mounts, yada yada. Discuss.

Both are wider than stock CJ. Scout has a 5 lug (stock CJ pattern) and the wagoneer has a 6 lug. The pinion angle on a wagoneer is closer to the CJ stock.

I haven't done it but that's what I remember...

avoid the scout unless you get a smokin deal, it most likely comes with 0* caster. I have also seen some with with the 260X u joints instead of the 297x

Wagoneer rears are 58.5 inches wide, scouts are about 59 if I remember correctly. The wagoneer front is about 60.5 inches wide and is usually shortened 4 inches on the drivers side. Useing the 44 front full width requires moving the springs to the outside of the frame on a cj. The wagoneer rears are offset to the passenger side up to 1979 models, 87-91 have perfectly centered pinions which help with short drivelines. Scout rear 44s are offset about 2 inches and can cause driveline problems with short drivelines. The 80-86 wagoneer rears are amc 20s with stronger tubes than the cj version and one piece axle shafts. If you want one of those I have one, and it won't cost you much. You will have to move spring perches no matter which one you use.

Fronts,
bottom line, a little wider and spring perches are wider than CJ frame.
Newer Waggys tend to be driver side drop which is opposite of CJ.
scouts 5 lug 5 on 5.5
Waggy 6 lug 6 on 5.5

Rears,
scouts 5 lug 5 on 5.5
Waggy 6 lug 6 on 5.5 d44 are usually offset amc 20s a centered.

I have put a scout 44 rear in my cj 5 and it worked great. new perches and there you go.

They are a little wider 58"-59" versus stock wide track CJ, though
