dana 44 swap

so i want to swap in a dana 44 in the front of my tj but i want it stock width and drivers drop, i don't know much about the axles but what year should i look for and what would be a good doner vehicle i'm sure this has been talked about before but i can't find anything what weaknesses should i look for and where's a good place to find one would a scout 44 work or they all passenger side drop any info would be great and i don't wanna hear go get one from a rubicon cause i can't find one

I have a scout 44 100 buck i think the gears 3:5something its just the axle and teh gears the rest of the stuff went back into my scout let me know if you want to take a look at it.

Early broncos were close to the same width so was wagoneer (not sure of the drop on the wagy though)

the only way I would put a D44 in the front of a Wrangler is if it was a high pinion, otherwise you aren't gaining any real strength. Look for the ford D44s to get this, however you wont find one thats hp and the same width as what you want. You can have it narrowed, but then you also need to either convert it to 5x4.5" bolt pattern or convert your rear to whatever the front is (if it's a ford it'll likely be 5x5.5" or standard 8 lug). If you go with a waggy front you'll want 80+ but avoid the 83-84 as they generally have the vacuum disconnect but all waggy's are low pinion.

I'm pretty sure a 5x4.5" pattern isn't possible with "real" D44 hubs, so converting the front to that pattern isn't much of an option.
