Dana 44

does anyone know how to indentify a dana axle? does the jeep wagoneer, 89, looks just like a cherokee, have dana 44s? i have some of the numbers from the axle, just wondering if its a dana 44.

There might be the number '44' cast into the diff, on one of the webbings, on the Diff Cover side... but, if it's an XJ Wagoneer, then I'd have to say you're SOL if you're looking for 44's.

agreed, if you cant tell by looking at it then you can get the BOM number and ID it with that if you can get those numbers then post them up and I'll ID it (usually start 60XXXXX)...or post some pics of the axles and a bunch of guys will be able to ID them...if its a fullsize waggy it is going to have either a D30 or D44 front and eith a M20 or a D44 rear, if its an XJ Waggy then it will have a D30 front and either a D35 (most likely) or a rare D44 for the rear...

thanks for the info guys. we got under it and this is all my friend could make out, because of flats i couldn't get under it.

it had the dana logo

the L in parantheses was something he wasn't sure, buts that what he saw on the pumpkin. i didn't know where else to look for numbers. where else should i look, as i'm gonna be out there again next thursday.
