marlincrawlers websight had a writeup a wile back about the puting 60 knuckles onto a toy housing. they used stock 30 spline 60 outers with all the stock toy breaks bearings an hubs, ....

Basically Muleskinners setup, but with 44 knuckles...

I must admit I was skeptical when I first heard of it, but after seeing Scott's rig and what he paid to have it done (Charles at RMA, excellent work!) I think it is a decent option. I am quite satisfied with my superbirfs, I have busted rear shafts and zero fronts since then. But a FF is waiting for his day in the sun... :D

how did he manage to get a 60 shaft through a 44 spindle? also i didn't think there was enough room in the knuckle for a 60 u-joint. more info, please. cause if that's an option that would be the way to go, 44 knuckles are a lot cheaper and easier to come by than 60 stuff is.

Whats funny to me is the video that bobby sent with his first supers.... Showed him bustin inner shafts, and outer stubs off the bell. But NEVER a bell. I want the one the sales man was using :D IS there a difference in MATERIAL that makes the two different shafts?? Dana vs toy? What are the opinions of getting a dana 60 shaft having it shortened and resplined, then put into the closed knucke of the toy axle?

OK, I wrote that in a confusing way...

Muleskinners is D44 knuckles/shafts mated to a Toyota housing... Same idea as the D60 but using the D44 stuff...

Sorry for the confusion... :D

Ummm...

Why not just by HD Toy inners (4130, 300M, etc)

In the end, WAY cheaper than cutting down a set of 60 shafts and having them re-cut...

and doing the HD Toy stuff is also going to be stronger than the stock 60 stuff...I would imagine:)

Yup, lots stronger..

Plus I don't think the 60 stuff could be machined to work without using a press-on seal surface for the inner axle seal. The entire diameter of the shaft is 1.31" with the exception of two places. One where is in the carrier (same as D44/D60 30 spl) and where the inner axle seal rides (D60 doesn't provide for this)

Another plus about using the Toy HD inners, they delete the retaining clip groove, thus eliminating the stress riser that most commonly breaks... :D

I agree with the alloy shafts... But it would be a better birf iliminater kit to go with 60 knuckles that 44's. Is there even a decent illiminator kit out there? It's usually the birf that pops still to this day. Few break inners. So if you could illiminate the birf....
How were the "smirfs" holding up? I don't do POR much anymore....
