I have done a few google searches and can't seem to find a 35 spline spool for a dana 70 axle. does anyone know where i could find one? or am i stuck spending the cash on a detroit
not sure if theres a full spool for a 70, i do know there are 2 types of carriers for them the open one that looks like a standard diff where you can see the spiders and the other is a two pieace clam shell, like the 14 bolt and rockwell. my friend just put a detroit in his 70 for his ram charger, we where going to weld it but he wanted this insteed, jason.
thats a bummer, i would try welding mine but if you break it your going to ruin the gears too . it just might be more cost effective to go to a 14 bolt. not as many gear options though
I called randy's on a detroit, $589, not cheap, but not as much as new gears and a detroit if the gears were ruined. Is it possible that the gears would not be destroyed if the welded gears broke? Has anyone had luck welding a 70 with the two piece carrier?
i think if you were to break the weld, chips of spider gears and side gears would go through the whole rear end ruining all the bearings and the ring and pinion. i guess there is a chance the ring and pinion could survive, but with the way i drive it's not to likely
the gears in a 14 bolt are not low enough. they only go to 5.13 i was running those with 36's. i just picked up some D60 7.17 gears today . i guess i'm ditching the 70 and just running D60's on both ends. much easier than trying to find used stuff or, odd ball spools. the shafts are the same anyway. hopefully these gears and shafts will hold up to 44's . thanks for all the input though!!
