i have a chance to get a 97 dana60

im about to get a set of bead locks for my 15'' rim's and would like to keep em

so i cant deside what to do, get the dana60 grind down the calipers and machine the hub and rotor for the 5 lug pattern.

or spend at least 1800 bucks on new wheels and tires.

but will also need to swap the rear axle out also so i have a matching lug pattern.

im hoaping to get 500 for my front axle but 300 of that is going to gear's and the rest to the suspension. witch i cant deside to go with duff arms or link it. im poor as shit so the cheaper the better.

can i even grind down these calipers?

i found this but ill still need to solve the 5 lug problem (bottom of the page)

or should i just get cromo's for my 44?
i am wanting to run 42's and one day 44's but i still need it do drive on the street for a few more years

If you want to go that big with tires I would not waste any money on the 44. On my jeep I ground down the caliper and never had a problem with 15" wheels, but then again I didnt have the problem with lug pattern because I had new wheels

ya, i know used 15'' 8 lug wheels are out there but there pretty rare.

i did some math, and i should get $1500 for my axles and wheels and tires

added up all my part's ill need including a 14bolt and wheels and tires and i should be able to do the hole swap needing about $1450 so ill start saving $1600 wile the axle sit's.

brought it home last night. figure ill just let it sit.. but it's got the getto brakes so ill ether need to find the set i can grind on or get that kit.

or get h1's

I WISH I WAS RICH!!!!

Having done what you are thinking about if I had to do it again I would just buy 8 lug wheels when you can. When I built my axles I wanted to keep the wheels and tires I had at the time. Now, that I have changed the wheels and the tires I wish I had the 8 lug instead of the 5 lug. 5 lug wheels are not enough for 42" tires, in my opinion.

Get the axle and save up and when you have the money then change the wheels.

My dad has 2 15x10 8 lug chrome mods and 2 15x8 8 lug chrome mods. if you want them there cheap maybe $30 for all 4 then you can sell which ever ones you dont want.

When I did my d-60 swap in 01 on my fullsize bronco, there were a lot better tire options for 15 inch wheels. (that is not the case these days) You can clear d-60 brake calipers with 15 inch wheels if you have 2.5 inches of backspacing. I did have to just barley grind the caliper a little bit.

However I want to question you about that picture. That caliper does not look like mine. If any thing that caliper doesn't have anything in the area that a ground down.

My axle was out of a 1997 ford f350 HEAVY duty (not super duty)

The 15 inch wheels with regular backspacing (4.5-ish) will clear a 10.25 or 14 bolt with drum brakes.

There is a section "how do i mount a 15 in wheel on a front d-60" and "how do I convert a d60 to 5x5.5 bolt"

I don't think I would ever tell anyone to not upgrade to a 60

well, the axle might really be sitting for a long time.

got fired today

and of course i bought a set of beadlock yesterday that im going to half to sell :mad::mad:

as for the brakes, i think that's the ford style of duel piston calipers rather then the chevy calipers.

i was talking to a guy that has the same setup and had to grind a little bit on them to run 15's but seems everyone is telling me to just get bigger wheels.

i just hope i don't half to sell it, i have not gotten a chance to dig into it yet. :(
