Danners still rock.

It's been too long since I've had a good set of boots. I've always liked RedWings, but with them supporting the SUWA crap I decided to go back to my boy scout days, when Danners and Vasques were king of the hill. Did a little shopping around and couldn't make up my mind, then I was in Sportsmens the other day and they had a pair of Danner Roughhouse TFX in my size, and I grabbed them.

I just laced them up and went and stood in the bathtub for 10 minutes with hot water above my ankles... 30 minutes later, I think I can feel a slight dampness in my socks. These boots rock. This is almost as good as new tires.

Good to know. I knew that Danners rocked a few years ago but the I'd heard they "outsourced" manufacturing to China and the quality significantly decreased. I bought new boots in 2010 and with a Meindl...horrible decision. 2 years later and I still have to cover my feet with athletic tape or my feet will end up raw after a hunting trip.

I wear Danners at work in the winter. Super comfy, feet are always dry and for the most part warm. My only complaint is the leather was trimmed a little differently on each foot. there is about 1/4 more material on each side of one boot which unfortunately doesn't allow me to crank it down quite as tight as I want. Other than that great boot.

Looking at their site, you can select features including boots that are Made in the USA.

I'm a sucker for quality boots, have a pair of Vasque's that are pretty comfortable kicking around the house or exploring in the mountains or the desert. I would like a 2nd pair of boots, Danner's this time?

Where did you get your Vasque boots? I've heard they are very comfortable and hold up to some pretty rigorous terrain - I'm interested in getting a pair for next hunting season.

REI, actually. I had mine for 4-5 years and the sole started coming apart. REI replaced them with another pair for free... I'm not a huge REI fan, but after that, I'm OK with shopping there on occasion.

If you can find the version the Military use, they are about as good as it gets. I had a pair of the Gore Tex Military issue in Desert tan. They are some of the best boots I have ever had. They are on KSL some times for under $100 buck new.

Went and tromped through snow up to my knees all afternoon - I didn't bother putting my gaiters on and my jeans got soaked, but my feet stayed bone dry. Never could have done that in the Columbia hikers I've been wearing. Love these boots.
