Buggy Observations
As you all know, this is my first buggy, first real build from the ground up, first rig with links/airshocks, and the largest tires I have ever owned in the 42's.
After the full summer wheeling it in Moab, 5 mile pass, delta, price, and here in Cache valley, I have a few observations.
1. I need a skid plate (always planned on one, just never got around to it.)
2. I should have had my drivetrain finalized before the chassis was built. (I could have brought the belly height up at least 3".)
3. Same with the links. (if I had mocked it up with the t case and axles, I would have to known to move the lowers out a few inches to avoid link/drive shaft interference. Not that its all that bad, only at full droop does it touch, but it does touch.
4. The rear mounted radiator works great. No over heating issues at all.
5. Full hydro steering kicks a$$. Even with just a stock chevy pump.
6. I thought that cutting brakes and front dig would mostly be a novelity. Man was I wrong!
7. The police all love the buggy, but still frown upon you driving it down the road.
8. If the used car dealership offers to trade you for a 99 corvette, be sure to test drive it first.
9. 3/8" was too thin of metal to make the rear truss out of. 1/2" seems to be holding up much better.
10. it is much harder to jump than you might think.
11. Air shocks ride much better than toyota leaf springs.
12. Driving it in the richmond black and white days parade and my daughters throwing candy is mucho fun.
13. Winches to suck the down the suspension really do work.
14. T max wiches seem to work fine, but the cables suck.
15. Synthitic (sp) winch rope is worth the money. (but is was alot cheaper than I thought that it would be.)
16. I thought that going from a 20r to a tbi 4.3 would be all the power I would ever want... Its not.
17. People treat you different. Not always in a good way.
18. I get sick of people asking if I take it to the dunes. Its a ROCK buggy.

I get #18 all the time and mine has not been out of my garage yet.
Buggy update.
Buggy is holding up great so far.... mostly. The motor has always knocked some, but after the beaver mtn run, High RPMs for extended time I think really pushed it twords it death. I have looked into rebuilding the 4.3, but with machine word and rebuild kit, I am into that about a grand, give or take. So....... I have the option of putting this into the buggy.
I picked it up for free.99, so I couldn't pass it up. It has a spun cam bearing, they think.
So the plan is to pull the cam and see if I can tell if one journal was running hot.
But, as you can see, there is no computer, harness, coil packs, etc. So the challenge will be to get this in running shape for less than the cost to rebuild the 4.3. Possible???

I picked up my complete 6.0 for 1000 bucks, but know its a lot tougher. I figure you can get the computer and harness for probabaly 200 bucks, but then you have to get it programed- 250-500, but the major hurdle I see is the accessories, like starter, alternator, ps pump etc etc. Plus fixing the engine. I would still do it, just thinking out loud
