For those of you who own diesel and have them tested in davis county here is what is happens for you in 2013.
All 2008 and newer diesels under 14001 gvw can have there diesel test anywhere. They perform an obd II test on these models. If have a truck thats over 14001 gvw you will report to the same place all 07 and older diesel trucks will go. Which is the davis county I/M tech center. The tech center will ran by a private company performing diesel tests and diesel tests only. So if you always brought your car to the tech center you will not be able to do that anymore. Also on the spot renewals will cost extra to have done by the new company, no more free on the spot renewals. If you have any questions I will awnser then to the best of my ability.

So does that mean you are an employee? (also, I have a lugnut on my truck and have had the tint changed....any chance you can verify that and bring me a safety inspection cert rather than me having to drive up there again?)

Will the 2007 and older diesels still require an opacity test?

I was hoping this place and its terrible service and attitude would be eliminated. I guess we're just not that lucky.

Yes 07 and older still have to have an opacity test. I'm sorry who have had a terrible experience with the county and I hope I and the employees that will be working for the new company can provide you with a satisfying experience, but only time will tell I guess.

Since I am pre obdII, my truck has the luxury of being strapped to the rollers while some troglodyte stomps the piss out of the pedal, pegging the pyrometer and rolling smoke off the rear tires as the dyno loads. It is painful to watch and in fact the old bastard that is ALWAYS there, hates an audience.

The place is a joke and a total monopoly.

I will stop there with my rant...

Gertsch, I'm not bagging on you, unless you are the old guy...in fact I'm relieved to have a contact there. Hopefully we can hook up when the time comes.

Thanks for the updates. I was really hoping the old diesels would become to big of a hassle and expense to continue testing. I guess no hassle is to great for tax $$$.

Nope but I'm pretty sure I know exactly who your talking about. Mike Karpus I bet. I've always tried to help the diesel guys out since its a pain that you have to come in here and are suppose to do all this crap. Ill continue to take care of you guys as much as I can. If anyone ever needs anything just hit me up and ill do what I can to make your experience more enjoyable and am more then happy to show you and explain the whole test procedure.

I hear that SLC97SR5 works at Costco driving a forklift around in the stock room, I figured that it must be a Costco word.....
