Ok EZ... How far does this old road go? Anywhere near the ridge looking down into Alta (that is the end of the road as per the old USGS topo)...

Topo shows ~3.4 miles from the bottom to the top (ridge overlooking Alta)...

I know you have hiked it to the top... how far do you think you and I hiked it that day? We never did find the "road improvments" made by the owners...

I have hiked Days fork a few times but it's been several years, the road goes up pretty far but I don't recall finding it on the last upper slope at the head of the canyon, though I remember switchbacks, I think they were just single track?

You can't get out of the bowl. It's like straight up, single track switch-backs are the only way out.

Gorgeous canyon.......

My favorite canyon in Big or Little Cottonwood. Cool steam boilers at the top, truly beautiful.....

Steam boilers... as in the Prince of Wales Mine (Silver Fork Canyon)???

No, their are boilers at the top of Days Fork too. Probably about 15-25 years newer then the Prince of Whales stuff though. There's also another boiler down lower from the Prince of Wales mine in the same bowl. Gawd I love all that stuff in there. Isn't the external camshaft, steam piston, and 5' flywheel at the Prince of Wales mine the coolest?

I love that stuff.

Sweet, thanks for all the info!

I love old mining history too... We ought to go up there one of these days and swap info... EZ and I have collected quite a bit of early literature regarding the mines in BC Canyon (maps, reports, etc)
:D
