I'm not trying to be argumentitive here, or trying to change the focus of this thread, BUT.... that's like saying I went wheeling once and all I seen were a bunch of 6th grade graduates drinkin Bud, drivin over peoples tents, shootin at there dogs, and throwing beer bottles at there kids.
And I also believe that Rednecks are God fearing, Family loving folks.
It's just generalizing any one group is what we, as wheelers are having to put up with.
I have no doubt that 'rednecks' are god fearing (whatever that means), family loving folk. Still doesn't mean that they aren't stuffing a couple cans of Bud in their beer hat and sitting down to watch some high speed left hand turns.
The difference, I think, is that NASCAR is marketed (from what I can tell) as a 'redneck' sport. Which is all fine and dandy, it's just not my cup of tea. And yes, generalizations are bad, but come on, sometimes they are just so entertaining!
[history lesson] The term 'redneck' has its origins during the Depression. When someone had a red neck that meant that they had been out in the fields working. Thusly, that meant that there was a good chance they were able to provide, at least meagerly, for themselves and their families. So the term was coined, and it was somewhat of a complement.
Over the years it has been perverted to mean someone slow and dim-witted. The reason for this is because during the Depression the migrant field workers in California were usually from Oklahoma, Arkansas or other areas of the Dust Bowl. They had traveled hundreds of miles to find work, and in many cases their spirits had been broken. Thus, the perception that 'rednecks' where slow and dim-witted. [/history lesson]
