I might be able to get a free D70 Detroit, and/or a very cheap 14blt Detroit from a friend of mine back east. This would be for my mothballed crew cab, which will be the tow rig shortly after I put it back on the road.

Crew cab, dually, will be towing a Blazer. Bad idea?

I have replaced a couple of newer Ford super duty factory limited slips with detroits, they aren't real noticeable in those longer heavy trucks. I would run it just go easy in the snow and icy roads.

Eaton Corp does not recommend using a Detroit for a tow vehicle. Something to do with reverse torque and all that stuff.

BUT, my dad has been running one in the Bronco for years and tows with it on a regular basis, never had any problems.

I think you would be ok,

I had one in my old Polygamy Cab dually. It sucked! I had a camper on mine, and the Jeep on a trailer behind that. I think if the bed were kept unloaded, it wouldn't be bad. But in my case, I feel very lucky to not have broken anything. If it's free, fine. If not, I wouldn't spend a dime installing one.
