Friday afternoon I headed up to East Canyon and fished the stream where it comes into the reservoir, I was lucky to catch what I did considering how fast and high the water was moving. Managed 2 brown and 1 tiger trout, biggest brown was 17 inches and the others were 14 and 15 inches, cooked them up for dinner tonight. Went through a pack of 6 hooks with all of the crap I got hung up on under the water, but overall it was a perfect afternoon for fishing. I caught the largest one first around 3:15 just along the bank where the stream had cut away a great hiding place for him, took a picture of her right after reeling her in because it was the first real catch of the year. Then caught the other two about an hour later out of the same pool where some bushes were overhanging the water. The strong current made them all feel bigger than they were so it made it even more fun. I actually decided to use my net this time and it paid off, the tiger trout came off the hook the second I put the net under him.

Question though, does their meat get soft in the colder months for some reason? I ask because it almost seemed like it was mushy tonight compared to the trout I caught last summer and fall.

And if anyone ever needs advice on good places to fish, DaveB has led me to good fishing every time I have asked.

Over cooked ???

Personally I've always thought rainbow trout were mushy and tasteless... They've just always been planter trash fish to me... I'd take a bunch of little brookies any day over a decent sized rainbow..

Stocked trout tend to have mushy meat. But during the whole spawning time they mushy as well so its a combination of spawing and being a stocked fish. The fish are now done spawning but the effects of it are still obvious, just look at your wife and see how long it takes for her to firm up. I am glad my wife does not read this.

That was good for a laugh.. thanks, I needed it.. And I'm really glad my 6 month pregnant wife doesn't see this ;)

Today I fished the stream again and caught a 19 inch brown, a 15 inch brown, and 2 rainbow trout about 14 inches, put them on ice as I caught them. Weather was perfect and the entire lake is open.
