ok so this afternoon I went to drive my truck and everything seemed to the norm. I went to take off and the motor shut off. So I pulled over and tried to start it again. It would start and run for about ten secounds then start running really rough. It will continue to do this constantly. I do have to leave it off for a secound after it dies or it will just keep turning over. Any ideas???? Its a 2004 powerstroke with the 6.0

If I was a betting girl, I would put my money on your CPS aka crank shaft position sensor being kaput. When ours pooped out in the '02, it acted nearly identical to that. Chris just picked up a spare one at Carquest for $28.

Well if it is anything like my 2002 F250 this will be just the beginning of a beautifull friendship with the dealer and your local parts store, first the crankshaft position sensor then the tranny (4000.00 freakin dollars to fix) the alternator went out twice in two weeks (way to go checker auto, your parts are all high quality). My friend has an Excursion same year with the 7.3 liter and everything that has happened to mine is happening to his right around the same mileage. Good luck with yours, I am selling mine!!

So what you're saying is that since Checker sold you a POS alternator, it's still a Ford problem? :wtf: Sorry to hear you're having such problems with Ford. Our '02 has over 100,000 miles on it and he is as much a champ today as he was the day we brought him home with 25 miles on him! :)

.....How is Ford about chips?

Ford's "official" position is that if it can be proved that the modification caused the failure the warranty is void.

Unofficially, it is the tech that will see the vehicle first and make the decision whether to make a big deal of it. It would have to escalate though the service managers and regional Ford Service rep for the warranty to be officially voided.

CMP's or Camshaft Positions sensors are a big problem on 7.3L engines. The 6.0 liter has an entirely different set of problems of their own.

I was wondering about the egt sensor, what would you do to hide that? I no I would have to take the pod out for sure, but what do you do with the egt sensor?

My best advise is just leave it all in the truck. Personally nothing bugs me more than a customer who seems to be hiding the fact that he obviously has a performance adder. Personally I don't care what the customer has done to the vehicle. I see the same problems over and over again on both stock trucks and the highly modified. I don't think it matters what has been done. Sooner or later something will break. Stock or not. If one dealer declines warranty repair you could fight it or go somewhere else. It is hard for them to prove an edge box caused a failure if the edge box is working the way it was designed. On the other hand if your engine seized and the oil looks like mud you have a problem. That is easy to prove and you just bought a $12,000 engine.

There is no need to hide a EGT probe or hole for one, there is nothing wrong with using a EGT gauge, in fact I would think Ford would support that you want to keep your temps safe.

your right...nothing wrong with the EGT gauge. But I was referring to an EGT sensor that is mysteriously connected to nothing. Besides....who needs an EGT gauge on a stock truck? What are they protecting it from? The stock PCM programming would never allow that much heat build up. Unless there was some other mechanical or electrical malfunction in which case failure is inevitable.
