I have differential fluid leaking out of the joint where my drive line connects to the rear differential on a 97 xj. Why?

Pinion seal. Easy to change but you will need a new pinion nut unless you are ok with just locktite and mare the threads a little after you put it back on.

You will need to check pinion preload as well when you change the seal - your pinion preload is likely set with a crush sleeve which is not meant to be reused once the pinion nut is removed. The proper way to do it is to change the crush sleeve when you replace the seal.

duurrr, I speed-read that way too fast and totally missed what he was driving. Yes, you are completely and relevantly correct, and no one should say otherwise. This isn't your first rodeo. ;)

Could have been upgraded to a D44 ;) or a 8.8,...
