I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi that I am running 35's on. It came stock with 4.10 gears, but lately I have been thinking I would get more towing power and better mpg's with 4.56's. Anyone here tried it and seen good results?

Thanks

If you originally had 245/75 R17's and 4.10's... 35" and 4.56's would be the same ratio to the ground almost it would be real close, your speedo would be on.

DUDE! it's got a Hemi

OOPS I saw "Dodge 2500" and couldn't imagine anything but a Cummins in it. :D

anyway I concur with your calculations about equivalent gear ratios.

Right now, with that combo you're effectively pushing a numerically lower gear ratio, which is forcing your "Hemi" to work harder all around.

4.56's would very much help you.

Yeah, a diesel would be great, but funds didn't allow for it at purchase time. And Meat_ is correct, 245/75 R17's were stock. I figured about the same on gearing it at 4.56's to get me back to where I want to be. I could care less about the speedo being calibrated correctly, just wanted some towing power and mpg's back. Thought I would see if anyone else had tried this and what their results were before I started spending more money.

Well, if it's close, you're golden. My Blazer is off about 13mph at 65 on the speedo, according to the roadside radar displays. It is actually worth it for me to get that corrected LOL hell of a lot cheaper than the first ticket I'm probably heading for.

If the speedo is on then you're at stock final drive ratio ;)

That makes sense. Hadn't ever looked at it that way.

If you know how far off your speedo is then just adjust your speed accordingly and avoid the ticket. Thats what I try to do at the moment. I figure I am off by about 10-12 at 65mph. Hopefully not for too much longer though.

Does that have the 5pd auto? If it does at 2000rpm with stock tires and gears you were doing 68mph, with 35's and stock gears you are doing 76mph at 2000rpm
