If you did the same trails in Moab over and over again it would old, but I don't get down there enough to do that. One other place you may want to try is the Hammers in Johnson Valley CA, and the trails in Montrose CO.

I have been thinking about checking out the Hammers for a while, but don't really know much about the area or how long the actual trail is. Living up North would make for a long trip down there just to go wheelin. Do you think it's worth the trip? What about Montrose? Sorry so many questions

Absolutely worth the trip, in both places. But plan on spending at leat 3 days if you go. You do need either a guide to get to the trail heads or good GPS coordinates. Once you're on the trails there's only one way out.

Both places you go up canyons, then come out on a road on top. In Montrose that road winds back to the campsights we stay at. In Johnson Valley you end up either on a another trail coming down or a road, depending on which trail you go up.

The trails are like any other. Your first time you'll take a long time, after you've run them a couple of times, you can fly through them.

The first time we did Die Trying it was a 15 hour ordeal with a hike out in a rain storm at night, and a hike back in the next day. The last time we did it took less than 45 minutes. Of course our equipment got better and the trails got easier.

I'd have to say "yes" for me. I've been there twice and did 4 different trails. It's OK, but I don't find the scenery particularly interesting. I'd much rather wheel in the San Juans in Colorado. It's not as tough technically, but the scenery is amazing and everchanging.
To each his own...

I will be heading to montrose area first part of next month. You (rotbox) are welcome to come if you want.
Now that i live in Moab, I am board with Hells revenge, poison spider...... and that is about it. I wheel about 2-3 times a week. If I can find another rig or group that is going out, I just ask to tag along, if I am alone than I try to stick to the 4+ or easier trails, But so far there is always something, or some one new to keep thinks interesting.

Unfortunatly I haven't been wheelin anywhere in Colorado yet :( , but I'm going to see if I can get some time off at w#@k because I'd really like to get out and try something new. As far as a rating what would you guy's say most of the Montrose trails rate (1-5)? How long of a drive from SLC? Pics? sorry so many questions

well i live here in the ranches and it takes about 45 min to get to north salt lake in good trafic and i also make the trip to willard bay often to get the boat out and it takes maybe 1.5 to two hours from my house and then another 15 min to get to the trailhead so you could make it a weekend trip that would be great.

I've done a good chunck of the 70+ trails in the Moab area... and I don't find myself getting bored with the place. My problem is my list of "trails to do" is getting longer than it is shorter.

I saw the San Juans (Ouray,Telluride, Silvetron, etc.) mentioned, I would second that in a heartbeat. Some of the "neatest" wheeling I've ever done.

Personally I can not say much for wheeling Moab as I have only done it several times.

Although my personal opinion is I would rather be prepared and take a trail that takes several days, than be unprepared on a short, difficult trail.

BTW I would like to say that those that find moab "boring" do it in a daily driver. ALL trails and get back in this thread.

I can't believe how many of you have only been to Moab a few times. It's only a few hours away, and it's relatively cheap to spend the weekend down there. Camping can be $0-16/night, and wheeling is free. Even when i lived in Logan for a short few months I found the time to get down there about 4 times. Utah (the whole state) is a huge playground. I can't believe some of y'all take it for granted.

x2....

Ive been wheel'n Moab for 14 years and havent got bored with it..Ive done most all the trails and over the years we have changed it up such as running some of the trails backwards or doing poisen spider up and gold up to zuki hill then turn around and then the next day do rusty nail and swing over for the end obstakles of gold spike, that cuts out the jarring journey of the rest of the trail. Ive also always ran a different rig every couple of years, so its always a completely different experience, add that with wheeling Cedar city, mini moab, snakes, and a few other places a couple of times a year theres no reason to get bored in Utah.

My biggest problem is the fact that I have to borrow a trailer every time I want to go somewhere far away  I have nowhere to put it if I just bought one, and driving my Toy means the usual 45 mph attack on any sort of grade. Hows that for a poor excuse? (I know... I'm pathetic  )

What I have decided for my pre Moab trip is to go to the Snakes (pending work schedule  ) I haven't been wheelin in the area, and from what I have gathered It should be a pretty good time (and fit into a weekend). I am shooting for Labor day weekend, and when I get some more info on my schedule I'll post it in the "Upcoming Wheelin Trips" section for everyone to consider. Thanks for all the Ideas on places to go, a if I'm lucky mabey can make it out to Colorado next year :)

Final conclusion? Just as I thought from the begining: As long as Moab is there, and still open to people like ourselves IT WILL NEVER GET BORING......EVER :D
