Been lurking for months. Time to step up. Moved here from Socal over the summer. I've got a 1990 Ranger 4x4 with... issues, and a 1995 Grand Cherokee for current daily driver.
The ZJ has the Upcountry skidplates and suspension package. I will be adding some parts to make it more capable, and to meet run rules with straps and tools and such, but intend to keep it as my DD.
The Ranger has an older Skyjacker 6" lift, 2.3 four banger and a 5 speed. It still sits as I bought it with stacked rear blocks and fiberglass flared front fenders. Good, the truck runs great, shifts great and the 4x4 works great. The autohubs were swapped for Warn lockouts. Issues are the 6" lift with short radius arms, all bushings, broken motor mounts (again), and those stacked blocks. As the truck is not driven at this time, I'm considering options. Due to the truck having come from Hawaii before I bought it, it has bad rust in the cab. I could replace the cab, or, buy another Ranger and swap good parts over from the old truck. Or, strip the truck down, swap in a XJ D30 front axle , build the truck like a Formula Toyota rock crawler, coil and link the rear axle. Basically, I could chuck it and start from scratch, or use the good and make it trail only.
I'm done lurking. Looking forward to wheeling.
