Driving without doors

Nope, As long as you have a mirror that you can put on the side. But even then I have only had one buddy get nailed for no side mirrors.

technically if you're vehicle isn't designed to have removeable doors, the it's illegal. Only a traffic cop will bust you on that technicality (so I've been told). However, it is my understanding that as long as you have a mirror and a 4 inch lip preventing things from rolling out then you won't get busted by 95% of the cops out there.

well like shawn and cody said...if your vehicle was not designed with removable doors(ie doors are a factory option on wranglers CJs you dont have to get them) then it is technically illegal...but as long as you have 2 rear view mirrors...usually its the window rear view mirror and the one on the driver side door then you will be fine...my mom was drivin my wrangler a few years back with out any doors and got busted by WVC police...got a ticket...judge dismissed it but she had to go before him...PITA if you ask me...

From my experience, the UHP doesn't take kindly to anything other than Jeeps running w/o doors. I have gotten a warning for driving the Toyota w/o doors and even had side mirrors. I think if I had atleast some half doors, I may have been OK. I never got pulled over in the Samurai, but heard of others that have. Guess it may depend on how smart (and determined) the cop is...

So what if I throw some cargo netting on the edge? Like 4" of it. Does that count? BTW I don't even have anything that could fall out. THe closest thing is my fire extenguisher but thats all tied up to my seat.

With all the money that goes into my truck (ie payments and insurance and what little mods I can afford) I don't own a cell fone or really anything for that matter. Just a mug sits there, but that too is really secure. So what about the netting?

Hey Klif01, if I remeber correctly, you have a '89 or newer red Toyota pickup. You will in fact get warned or ticketed for running w/o doors in Orem or anywhere else in Utah. Actually, I think your chances of getting pulled over is even greater in the Orem/Provo area. Your only hope is to fabricate some kind of tubular door that has a good latching mechanism or modify a second set of stock doors. The only examples that I can think of is 1/4 elliptic toy's and Skychrome's. I will be making some tube doors for mine, but don't know how soon...

I've been warned alot. Got a UHP ticket for the factory deal. Most guys don't know. I run on the cops. But now my roof is off to I just drive nice. Usually they don't look twice untill they pull you over for mudflaps :D eh von....

What makes an 89 or newer toy worse? But I probably will make some tube doors cause that looks cooler than no doors. Ohh yah and its a 94 toy.
Hey Von a while ago you sent me some pricing info for the SAS. Would I get any kind of discount if I did all the IFS removal myself?

I didn't mean to imply that your truck being an '89 or newer was in some way "worse" or less legal (running without doors) in any way. Its no different than my '88.

On to the SAS thingy. Yes, you would absolutely save money removing the IFS, which is the toughest part of the process. However, it would be nearly imposible to transport the rig to our shop, and due to insurance reasons, you would not be able to do the work here.

Well, actually I have an auto shop at school, that I can do all of the work at, then My friend has a big trailor. If I cut all the ifs stuf off etc and just set the truck down resting on the frame in the front in the trailor instead of having it on jack stands or somthing for transport purposes. would that hurt it at all? I will probably come talk to you next week a little more in detail about all the SAS process.

You gotta get it from the trailer into the shop though....that's the tough part, unless you happen to be a mobile crane operator. :)

Just pull the rear axle off too. Pick the whole truck up with your buddy and put it on a pallet. The UPS guy will swing by to pick it up. It should only cost a few bucks to ship. People do it every day. :D

Actually, I have a very strong dolly that you could rest the front of the frame on and drive it into the shop even, a couple of high lifts here and there and it should be easy. moved a crew cab ford like this.
