East Coast Calamity

Hello All!
My name is Fred and Im from CT. Its a long ways away I know, but hopefully I'll be moving out west in the next few years. Hopefully you guys will put up with me till then. :D
I currently wheel a 97' TJ with a 5.5" Clayton Hard Arm kit, 1"body lift and 35"s. But I'm collecting parts for its next build. So far I have only the new axles. I have a D-60/Sterling10.25 narrowed and locked with ARBs F&R. Soon to come are H1 double beadlocks, 37" or larger tires (who knows), a D300 for a NP231/D300 doubler, 1-ton steering and hydro assist.

Pics as it sits now:

Bart refered me to this site after I found a picture of his LTJ on Pirate4x4. He directed me to his build thread here, as during this next build, Im considering doing a stretch. I signed up in order to check the thread out, but will most likely stick around as I like what I see so far.

I love to wheel, have fun breaking stuff, and hate the mud. Other than that, there isnt much to know about me. I also have a 73' CJ-5 which i guess is worth mentioning, but thats another can of worms haha.

Anyways, Im glad to be here, so thanks for having me!

Thanks guys

Welcome to RME! Ever done any wheeling out West?

unfortunatly, no, I havent. I was out in CO a few weeks ago and wheeled a Prius that a girl in our group rented up a snow covered dirt road, but thats the extent of my rocky mt. wheeling...

BTW, it... it didnt work out well

I do go snowboarding out west all the time. I just cant wait to get out there to wheel. Its a shame my TJ doesnt count as carry-on.
My local club is talking about a cross country trip to Moab for summer 2009 tho, so hopefully that will work out.

Hey where are those trails? In/close to CT? I've got a cousin that lives there with a Jeep, and she says there are no trails... -_-

we are very secretive about our trails in the east because there's just so few of them and they're always in danger of getting shut down from overuse. if she wants to find some trails she should try joining one of the clubs around here. North East Online Wheelers is kindof like the RME of New England and it would be a good place for her to start. http://forum.neow.net/index.php?
and ctjeep.org would be another place to look

Im a member of SiSoffroad. We're based out of CT. Those pics are from my rigs last trip to Rausch Creek offroad park. Ive been two times since, but the last time my TJ made the 4 hour trip, I snapped two axle shafts in a weekend... hence the jump from stock to D60/10.25s...

running 35"s on stock axles IS NOT A GOOD IDEA...

trust me, I knew better... my wallet just didnt.

Hey, glad to see you made it over, welcome. Can tell by the intro you fit right in. Didn't know anyone from the east hated mud.;)

It's a little calmer here than on Pirates.

Welcome! This is a good group. I wish I had more of a chance to meet more people!

Is it just me, or do the Sterling 10.25 and the H1's have a different bolt pattern?

I thought that looked like PA....

Welcome to RME!

Rokrash, it's just you, sort of: the older Sterlings had the normal bolt pattern. It wasn't until the new body style in '99.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

and the guy I bought the axles off of was running H1 rims on them, so I'm good to go. the only problem is that finding H1 rims on the east coast is not as easy a task as one would think.

USA6x6 gets alot of bad press over on Pirate, but I think I'll take my chances with a set of their re-centered H1 DBLs

anyone have a reason I shouldnt? or know a better source?

But im afraid that the transplant didnt take so well. I need to redo my front axle side CA mounts, and while im at it, there is just too much that ive noticed has been going wrong. too many temporary fixes that are fighting one another. so the time has come for a total frame up rebuild. Ive given up on the stretch idea, but the rebuild has to happen. no two ways about it. gotta stop the frame from rotting, and i wanna lower the jeep from 5.5" to 2.5" and get some bigger trail tires. (on 36"s for now)

This whole next build is to get (now that i have pretty much all the parts ill ever need as upgrades) what i have to work well. the reason for this being that a good buddy of mine and I are looking to wheel Moab this summer. hopefully around the june/july border. hence why I am here. I wanna make myself apparent again and hopefully get some face time on this board and with its members. As I have a ton of questions about wheeling out west.

So basically, Im back RME. Sorry i havent been around, and I hope to stick around this time!

Bummer when you have to go back and redo, but it sounds like it's needed. Yeah, you look way tall for the tires you're running. Good idea on the drop. Welcome back.
