Yep they all lived. I watched the whole thing go down and watched the rescue operation. Nothing like feeling helpless to stop something. I can still remember them all screaming as the rig went over the edge. That is one thing I wish I could forget.

Yeah, I was at Potato Salad Hill when it happened, watched the chopper come in and heard that someone rolled, but that's about it.

Isn't that still in there too, the vehicle that is? I think I remember looking and it looks like some type of vehicle is wedged on the side.

I was there when it happened. It was incredible the amount of stupidity (ok not really) that concentrated itself all at once.

1. Inexperience
2. IFS rig lifted wrong
3. Dumb spotter
4. Dumber driver that listened to dumb spotter
5. And some other things I'm sure of but can't prove.

Reason I know is I was camped with the people driving the white Cherokee. It was their friends that went over.

That whole EJS that year was a disaster from the bullet that went through our camp over the fire to the drunk guy racing around at night on a 3 wheeler almost running down a girl as the cops chased him.

...what was goin on?????........caught in traffic??????.........trying to go around those coming down????......or are they coming down to help??????..........what really happened???????......... :(

There were two of them going up after they had snuck in. Lead vehicle was a white Cherokee followed by the Toy. As they got 3/4 of the way up the two vehicles shown started heading down. The two vehicles heading down went off the line while the Xj went through. The two downhill vehicles came back on line and continued down. The Toy went off the line to the right. The shotgun "Stupid" (Xj guys informed me of his nickname because he's an idiot to which I ask who is the bigger idiot? Shotgun or the driver listening to him.) then got out and came around as the other vehicles continued down. "Stupid" yelled at him to gun it your sliding off! The Toy then gunned it causing the vehicle to buck twice thus starting the rollover.

The vehicle had three occupants. Driver unseatbelted and two girlfriends in the back. When the vehicle went over the edge it wedged in at the bottom drivers seat area first crushing it. The driver not wearing a seat belt (one of those lucky rare occasions) ended up on the passenger side as it was falling or it would have killed him. The two girls in the back ended up with broken pelvises and one a broken sternum amongst other injuries. It has been to long for me to remember the injuries any better than that. Driver had a concussion and was black and blue head to toe.

As for the Toy. It was an IFS rig set up with the front torsion bars cranked all the way down for some lift causing the vehicle to have no wheel drop. The rear was some homemade block job. I don't remember much more than that on the Toys homemade crap lift. I do remember the Xj guys said it was a homemade hack job.

Agreed, there was major stupidity going there, but you missed one. Why didn't the rigs coming down wait for the last rig (Toyota) to come up it? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that's a precarious spot.

That is an easy one to answer. The whole weekend was filled with dumb college kids where EJS and spring break coincided. From some of the shop owners I know down there they said it was the worst EJS in their memory.

every year the crowd of "stupid" people gets bigger and bigger. The whole college spring break things really sucks. A friend of mine from Moab works with the local PD over Easter Weekend every year, and some of the stories he tells are just insane, people are just plan stupid.
