Electric or Mechanical Gauges??

So, I need an oil pressure gauge and a water temp one as well. I was pretty much going for electric, then I started looking around and hearing that mechanical gauges are more accurate, and more reliable and such. I'm a little concerned about plumbing HOT oil into the cab:eek: But hey, lots of people do it. So, I'm ready for pros and cons of each, continue...

I like the reliability of mechanical gauges. I haven't had any issues with the oil pressure gauge's capillary tube, no leaks or anything.

I had electric gauges before, they worked for a while then became intermittent. Could be because they were cheap gauges, but it was enough to turn me toward mechanical ones.

I went the opposite route, like my electrical way better then my mechanical. The hoses would be good for a couple weaks then a slight leak, have to by new fittings since its a crush sleave. I think it might have had something to do with all the constant vibration my rig sees.

Ive never had any of my tubing leak in any of my cars except on my Mustang were the vinyl touch an exhaust header. That started to spray oil all over the place. Spend a little more and buy the copper tubing, thats what im running in my EB.

I have run a lot of both....currently all electric. I have had problems with the tubes on the op and temp.
I have had good luck with Quality electrics! The cheapo's suck!
Electric are much easier to route/wire and the modern sensors are more reliable then those of yester year....

I prefer electric because I'm lazy and because they can't leak in the cab. Good electric are more expensive than the mechanical version from the same company. Like a mechanical autometer pyro - $40 electrical $144

I'm looking at the Auto-Meter Ultra Lites, you can get them in both mech and elec. And they are comparably priced between the two.
