Anyone know how to make my emergency break worth while. I need to be able to put it on cause I have a 5 speed and I would like to start halfway up the hill.

make sure it is adjusted properly. there are adjustments all over the place under the vehicle just make sure you dont go too far and run the pads on the drums all the time.

you just have to adjust. while you are at it, make sure you have some rear brake pads to make the whole thing work. so many times people have e-brakes that are worthless because their brakes are shot!!

So where are the break shoes for the e break? Its not the main shoes is is? But man I can't start on any hill cause I would roll to far by the time my foot got from the break to the gas.

the e-brake uses the same system, just with an extra lever on the brake shoe for the cable actuation.

on a disk brake it is the same way.

I know you're looking for info on making your e-brake work, but I'm going to totally ignore that and focus on the other "issue" in the post. I have 3 suggestions:

(1) You don't NEED an e-brake to start out on hills. All it takes is practice. Yeah, I know your gearing sucks right now, but thats no excuse.
(2) Your truck is equipped with a "clutch start cancel" button. Start that sucker in gear and go!
(3) If all else fails, get an automatic tranny.... :p

or just get bigger shoes for the HEEL-TOE action...you have to learn that if you drive a stick on the trails!!

another thing some people have is a thumb throttle. It utilizes a gear shifter from a mountain bike that hooks up to the throttle on your carb/throttle body and allows you to run the gas with your right hand, clutch with left foot and brake with right foot.

My lil-bro swears by it....

if you are still having troubles with your e-brake take it to big-o and have them look at all your brakes. i had them do this for me and they adjusted my e-brake for FREE. i didn't ask either they just did it.
