Engine Washing

Greetings All!!! I was down in southern Utah this past weekend and had to cross one of those famous red watered mud holes. Went through without a problem. However, I got my engine compartment pretty messy. Well, the lower half anyway. How should I clean my engine? Or, should I clean it? Water, etc??? Any advice and help would be much appreciated. There's nothing wrong with spraying it off, as long as you're careful. If you're a bit worried about getting water in the wrong place, use the garden hose & a spray nozzle, rather than a high-powered pressure washer.

Avoid spraying water directly on the throttle body & the distributor and you should be fine.

and try not to soak the alternator :hickey:

I just use the high pressure sprayer at a self service car wash. Like Greg suggested, just be careful about where you spray. Don't spray water directly into the air intake, don't hose down the distributor, etc. That stuff can get wet, but you shouldn't aim the water into sensitive areas.

If it's oily and greasy, I use some concentrated degreaser and spary it off at the car wash.
