Environmentally Conscious Puppy

We just got a new puppy. He is 7 months old and is a Maltese-Yorkie mix or a Morkie as he was described to me. I had no idea he was GREEN. He obviously believes in recycling because he eats his own POOP. Not just his but any other dog who is not environmentally conscious as well. WTF is up with this? Why in the hell would he do this? Besides wooping his ARSE, how do I get him to stop? In the old days, Indians used to keep dogs around to clean up camp. This is the 21st Century and my youngest thinks its funny that the dog likes to lick his face. YUCK, I try to remind him that this dog eats his own SH*T.

Go to Petsmart and get a food supplement that will help with that. I can't recall the name as we haven't needed it for some time. Our Shihtzu did that when she was a puppy.

My wife didn't think it was funny when I called the puppy "poopeater" instead of its name.

Some good reading here

We have a poop eater in our house. She's a 12 year old husky/spaniel.... We've found the best prevention is picking up the poop right away, thus eliminating the possibility for poop eating.

They smell their food in it. My dog used to eat it and cat poop too. I just got mad every time and he stopped. I know that isn't the reason but he just grew out of it.

Our neighbor's German Shepard did that. I looked into it briefly, and it seems to be somewhat common with puppies. If they're out of puppy stage it could be a good indication of malnutrition. I believe your puppy is in a puppy-poop-eating phase, and i'm sure a google search (or PM Houndoc on the board? he's a vet) could provide some answers.

On a side note my neighbors dog was leaving treats all over my front yard. I started pouring bacon grease on them and he would eat them the next day. His owner no longer lets him on my yard and I didn't have to say a thing. :DMy Brother in Law put cyan pepper on the little turd, dog stopped eating it in 1 day.
